The opportunity

Center for Photonics and Quantum Technologies (CPQM) of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Moscow, Russia) invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a tentative starting date of January 2020 (or thereafter).

In order to foster cutting-edge research in Time and Frequency research and technologies, CPQM is looking for an internationally recognized candidate with a profound background in time and frequency engineering and physics. The new professor will perform primarily experimental research of advanced, precise, compact, airborne, space-qualified atomic/optical systems and their applications including clock distribution for/via 5G, 6G, tele- and data-communication systems, free-space and fiber-based. He/she will provide experimental, conceptual, and theoretical support of existing CPQM research in optical signal generation, processing, and transmission, and in quantum science and technology and establish intra-CREI collaboration in those fields.

Candidates with substantial – national and international – expertise in time-frequency-research and with a proven track record of acquiring, conducting, and leading such projects, specifically in cooperation with third-party academic institutions, national funding agencies and government entities, as well as with related international institutes are particularly encouraged to apply.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in a suitable engineering discipline or in physics. The successful candidate will provide evidence of high-quality scholarly output at the international level that demonstrates potential for independent sustainable research, innovation and teaching activities leading to peer‑reviewed publications in top-level international journals/conferences and excellence in teaching and innovation.

Our Offer

It is expected that the appointed candidate will take an active part in Skoltech and CPQM strategic activities in Photonic and Quantum technologies research and educational infrastructure. Faculty duties include teaching at the graduate level, advising student and innovation projects, and conducting competitive research in time-frequency-research at the level of excellence.

All activities at Skoltech are carried out in English. Therefore candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

The successful candidate shall have his sole (or primary, resp.) affiliation at Skoltech, adjunct affiliations with other leading institutions are encouraged, secondary or multiple affiliations are discouraged.
