Job description

We are currently looking for a Kitchen Porter to join our in-house catering team who not only provide day catering for our students & staff but also cater for large business and hospitality events run within the University throughout the year. 

This position based mainly in our Craiglockhart campus with occasional requirements to work on other campuses as per the requirements of the department. You will be working 35 hours per week, working five days out of seven. Hours of work will vary and take place between 0730 to 2200. Due to our conference and events, there will be some evening and weekend work.

Our Property and Facilities team deliver a first class service to over 1,500 staff and nearly 18,000 students across Edinburgh Napier University. We are committed to continuous improvement of the service to both customers, staff and visitors.

The Role

As Kitchen Porter, you will support the Catering team in delivering a high calibre and effective service to student, staff and visitors to the university. You will ensure that a high standard of cleanliness is maintained across all areas. This will include the operation of the dishwasher, the receipt and storage of all goods, cleaning/clearing of tables and hospitality trolleys alongside the removal of all waste.

You will also be responsible for delivering and collecting the hospitality trolleys from different areas of the university on request.

You will have a customer-focused approach ensuring that compliance and implementation of all statutory regulations are maintained.

  • Experience in catering and food services within a busy environment 
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative with indirect supervision and support 

Desirable attributes:

  • Elementary food hygiene certificate 
  • COSHH training
