About the position

We have a vacancy for a 100 % position as post-doctor at the Department of Computer Science.

The position is hosted at the Norwegian Colour and Visual Computing Laboratory (Colourlab) (http://www.colourlab.no), Gjøvik, and financed under the project "Spectral Skin Modelling and Rendering for Realistic Digital Faces" (Spectraskin).

The Spectraskin project aims at increasing the photo-realism of digital faces in movies and video games, by developing new skin appearance models for computer graphics applications and devising novel techniques to estimate skin chromophores from images. The project is led by Dr. Giuseppe Claudio Guarnera at NTNU, in collaboration with experts at Imperial College London and at The University of York (United Kingdom).

The position of post-doctoral fellow is a fixed-term position with the primary objective of qualifying for work in top academic posts. The position represents an excellent opportunity for an individual to develop his/her career and contribute to the further development of the field.

Main duties and responsibilities

The successful candidate will work on multispectral / hyperspectral skin imaging, modelling and rendering, with a focus on the implementation of a novel spectral skin model for computer graphics applications, and its use for inverse rendering in medical imaging applications. The exact research focus and plan will be developed by the successful candidate after starting, under supervision by Dr. Giuseppe Claudio Guarnera, Prof. Jon Y. Hardeberg and Dr. Abhijeet Ghosh at Imperial College London.

The successful candidate is expected to ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times, to maintain accurate and complete records of all findings and to assist with the writing of reports to the Research Council of Norway.

20% of the working time will be devoted to teaching subjects related to the position (e.g. computer graphics, graphics programming).

Qualification requirements

Postdoctoral fellow:

A postdoctoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree in [subject area] or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, postdoctor and research assistant

Other qualifications

• Experience, including a proven publication track-record, in one or more of the following areas: computer graphics methods and tools, mathematical modelling or reflectance acquisition of multi-layered materials are considered a strong advantage.
• Strong programming skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. Applicants who neither are native English speakers nor from Scandinavia, must provide evidence of English language proficiency by means of one of the following tests: TOEFL, Academic IELTS and Cambridge CAE or CPE.

Minimum scores need to be:

• TOEFL: 600 (paper-based test), 92 (Internet-based test)
• IELTS: 6.5, with no section lower than 5.5 (only Academic IELTS test accepted)
• CAE/CPE: grade B or A.

Desirable requirements　

• Some background in optics or deep learning is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of several of the following programming languages and APIs: C++/Python, OpenGL/CUDA, Matlab, OpenCV.

Salary and conditions

Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 523 200 before tax per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 3 years (with 25% required duties?).

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criterias in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
