The school of Engineering and Materials Science at Queen Mary University of London has a vacancy for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work on a CAM-IES (EPSRC) funded project “Design and assessment of solid-state alkali metal-ion conductor 1D channelled framework materials”. This project will be carried out in the research group of Dr Petra Ágota Szilágyi, and in collaboration with Dr Christopher R. Jones, (School of Biological and Chemical Sciences) and Dr Anthony E. Phillips (School of Physics and Astronomy).
The aim of the project is to develop 1D anionic siliceous framework materials with different structural and chemical characteristics and test them for lithium ion conductivity, with the main aim of application as solid-state electrolytes. This role will be responsible for the sysnthesis of fused rings and 1D framework and work collaboratively with a team of chemists, materials scientists and physicists to establish ion mobility in anionic 1D channelled frameworks as well as presenting the work at group meetings and conferences.
The successful candidate will have a PhD and/or equivalent professional experience/qualification in Chemistry or a related subject and a demonstrable track record and experience in synthetic Chemistry. Experience in materials characterisation would be an advantage.
The post is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 12 months and is available from 01 December 2019. Starting salary will be £31,613 - £34,220 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
