About the opportunity

The Faculty of Medicine and Health is the largest faculty in the University, and contains seven academic schools: Sydney Medical School, Sydney Dental School, Sydney School of Health Sciences (from Jan 2020), School of Medical Sciences, Sydney Nursing School, Sydney Pharmacy School and Sydney School of Public Health. The School of Medical Sciences encompasses a group of the traditional disciplines of anatomy and histology, infection and immunity, pathology, pharmacology, physiology, and is expanding into new disciplines such as biomedical informatics and digital health. The school operates at multiple campuses including Camperdown and at Westmead with Applied Medical Sciences. The school contributes to courses in medicine, science, dentistry and pharmacy, and produces high-impact research across a range of biomedical fields.

We are seeking to appoint a distinguished academic as Professor or Associate Professor in Melanoma Research. The successful applicant will be an internationally respected basic scientist with a strong commitment to melanoma research and a willingness to work collaboratively with a broad range of institutions and researchers. The successful applicant must have a track record of growing a laboratory based scientific discovery research program, a capacity to lead a group of melanoma scientists, postdoctoral researchers and students. The successful applicant will be expected to enhance the strong record of success in melanoma research and make seminal contributions to the melanoma field.

The successful applicant must have a wide network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders, that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the school, faculty and University.

Term and remuneration

The position is offered on a fixed-term basis for 5 years, subject to completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. The successful candidate will be offered an attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
