Job description

The School of Law, Criminal Justice & Policing are inviting applications for one funded full-time scholarship.

The School of Law, Criminal Justice and Policing is based at our Canterbury Campus and has four distinct subject areas including law, criminology, forensic investigation and policing and a research centre – the Canterbury Centre for Policing Research (CCPR). The School sits within the Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences. It has in the region of 1000 students studying across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. It prides itself on the relationships it has built with the professions and currently offers popular undergraduate programmes in Forensic Investigation, Applied Criminology, Policing, Criminal Investigation and Law. Postgraduate programmes include an MSc in Applied Policing Practice, the Masters in research and PhD programmes across the four disciplines within the school. The successful candidate will join a thriving research environment and will benefit from the networks and contacts established by staff within the School.

The PhD proposal should focus on one of the areas described below or a proposal of the candidate’s choice (although we recommend that you discuss the proposal with the relevant contact below in advance). Scholarship details

The scholarship includes payment of fees and a £13,000 yearly stipend, as well as £500 annually for conferences and events. The supervision team will be academics from the school with a research background. The successful candidate will have access to the university Graduate School facilities. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will start the programme in January 2020. Interview details

Short listed candidates will be invited to attend the Canterbury Campus in Canterbury between 1000-1430 hrs on Friday 15h November 2019.  Please keep the date free for presentation and interviews. International candidates will be interviewed by Skype or similar.

Candidates selected for interview will be expected to deliver a 10-minute presentation on their PhD proposal outlining the research questions and proposed research design.
