We are looking for a Senior Lecturer or Lecturer who could help students to contextualise their studies by engaging them with design history and wider theoretical, cultural, and social issues and domains of knowledge.

You will be working as part of a dedicated course team who believe in a student-centred approach and an open-minded interpretation with regard to communication design and how it might continue to evolve in the future. The post would offer you the opportunity to develop your teaching practice by being responsible for the delivery of contextual studies at Level 4 and supporting delivery at Levels 5 and 6.

The post is advertised as both Lecturer and Senior Lecturer level. However, we are only recruiting to one post and the level of appointment will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience. For the specific qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience in relation to the two levels of post please refer to the relevant job description and person specification attached.

Candidates should be experienced in supporting students in the development of their ideas and have a passion for critical and creative approaches to graphic design. You will need to have the ability to deliver lectures and tutorials and lead groups of students and identify issues and questions that contextualise and theorise their practice. Skills in analysing and scoping social and cultural contexts, as well as strategic thinking, organisational and problem-solving skills are also essential.

You will need to continually update your professional and subject knowledge/skills and will be able to effectively work in a team whilst being able to work independently.  Excellent organisation and administration skills are also essential.

The successful candidate for the post will hold a Master’s Degree qualification in a relevant subject and will have a Teaching qualification as well as Higher Education Academy (HEA) Fellow membership. For the Senior Lecturer level a PhD is required.
