The CUHK Business School, a leading business school and a pioneer in business education in Hong Kong, now seeks to appoint a high calibre candidate to the post of Administrative Director of the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office.

Since its establishment in Hong Kong in 1963, the CUHK Business School has gained world recognition of nurturing business leaders with immense contributions in Asia Pacific. The School has been offering a comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (MBA, MSc, EMBA, MPhil, PhD) with over 4,600 students, as well as executive education. It has one of the most extensive alumni network in the region, with over 36,000 alumni around the world.

The Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office plays a crucial role in building and maintaining the School’s extensive alumni network; inspiring alumni to keep a close connection and lifelong commitment to the School; empowering the personal and professional growth of alumni around the globe; tapping into alumni development to reinforce the School’s brand and reputation and to support the School’s initiatives; and identifying giving opportunities where impact can be demonstrated and reinforced.

Reporting to the Associate Dean (Global Engagement and External Relations), the Administrative Director is expected to:

(a)        develop and implement the alumni engagement and development strategies for the School;
(b)        empower, motivate and supervise the work of the Alumni and Corporate Affairs team to ensure that office operations are integrated, effective and efficient in meeting the strategic goals of the School;
(c)        establish and build relationships with a wide range of alumni locally, nationally, regionally and internationally, including supporting the alumni associations and chapters;
(d)        create, lead and coordinate innovative and effective programmes and communications strategies to engage the School’s 36,000 alumni, connect alumni to the School, to each other, and to current students;
(e)        develop communications plans and lead content development for the alumni audience via multiple communications channels, monitor metrics and periodically evaluate communications tactics;
(f)         conduct comprehensive event planning for a wide variety of local, national and international events, including conception, design, development, coordination, implementation and post-event evaluation;
(g)        ensure accurate and complete alumni database records and identify ways to enhance alumni records;
(h)        cultivate relationships with other stakeholders of the School, especially corporate leaders and potential donors to solicit support for the School’s developments;
(i)         be responsible for the success of the School’s fundraising initiatives, including design and implementation of giving campaigns, recruiting and training of volunteers, research and solicitation of donors, maintaining donor database and gift recognition;
(j)         prepare and oversee the office’s budget; and
(k)        work at flexible hours and travel for business purposes.

The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

(i)         a Master’s degree, preferably in business;
(ii)         a minimum of twelve years’ post-degree work experience in alumni relations, relationship management, fundraising, event planning, public affairs or related fields, including at least five years’ leadership or management experience;
(iii)        strong network and relationship builder, and capable to work with academics and professional community with diverse background;
(iv)        demonstrated facility with technology to support alumni engagement initiatives,  including but not limited to customer relationship management (Sales Force), social media, and predictive modelling;
(v)        strategic thinker with passion for innovation and ability to initiate ideas and lead implementation of detailed plans by setting objectives and targets;
(vi)        strong organisational, logistical and planning skills with ability to prioritise multiple tasks under tight deadlines while maintaining work quality;
(vii)       ability to lead and groom a team to deliver results;
(viii)      demonstrated knowledge of and familiarity with business education, alumni relations and trends in the industry;
(ix)        an excellent English and Chinese writing, editing and proofreading skills; and
(x)        outstanding presentation, communication and public speaking skills in both English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua).

Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for two years commencing as soon as possible, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
