About the opportunity

The University of Sydney welcomes applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate with expertise in the synthesis, structural and physical property characterisation of metal oxides.

Following the award of an Australian Research Council grant we are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate working in the research groups of Profs Chris Ling, Brendan Kennedy and Thomas Maschmeyer. The project focuses on the design, synthesis and characterisation of metal oxides for photocatalytic water-splitting.

In addition to our in-house facilities, the project will make extensive use of the neutron and X-ray scattering beamlines at Australia’s OPAL research reactor in Sydney and the Australian Synchrotron in Melbourne, respectively. Some travel to other major facilities may also be required. Sample preparation, analysis, and physical property characterisation will be conducted at The University of Sydney.

As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate who possesses experience in the following areas:

  • A PhD in chemistry, physics or materials science
  • Demonstrated skills in the synthesis and characterisation of transition metal oxides
  • Demonstrated research ability in materials chemistry
  • Experience in relevant scattering and/or spectroscopic methods
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Experience in research record keeping and the preparation of research papers for publication.
