ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR RESEARCH AND LEARNING, MIT Libraries, to act as a member of the senior leadership team.  Will provide strategic leadership for the full range of research and learning services and support offered by the Libraries, leading and empowering a staff of over seventy in the following departments/programs: Information Delivery and Library Access; Liaison, Instruction, and Reference Services; Data and Specialized Services; and Community Engagement.  Will drive forward the strategic priorities of providing leadership and vision for the MIT Libraries as a global library of the future, with a focus on the community-facing service portfolio of the Libraries and exploring the balance between core and emerging library services in alignment with MIT’s focus on computational research and the Future of Libraries Report; grow staff capacity to guide community members to effectively create and use information; develop a service portfolio supporting emerging digital research, teaching, and learning; contribute to the transformation of library spaces; and build partnerships that shape the understanding of how research libraries transform a community’s work and advance social justice in the information ecosystem.  Will report to the director of the Libraries.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  at least seven years’ management and supervisory experience in increasingly responsible positions; advanced academic degree in a relevant field; experience in a research library/related field and thorough understanding of best practices and current trends in information and knowledge service development and operations; ability to translate strategies into actionable plans; evidence of resource allocation and capacity planning within a complex, user-focused setting; commitment to collegiality, collaboration, mutual respect, inclusiveness; and organizational, administrative, supervisory, strategic planning, and budget management skills.  Job #18049-13
