The Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequality (CPI) is a nonpartisan research center at Stanford University. The mission of the CPI is to conduct and facilitate research on issues of domestic poverty, mobility, and inequality and to disseminate the results of this research to scholars, policymakers, and the general public. The guiding principle of the Center’s work is that research findings should be evidence-based, the result of rigorous scientific inquiry, and communicated clearly and objectively. The CPI supports research by new and established scholars, trains the next generation of scholars and policy analysts, and disseminates the very best research on poverty, mobility, and inequality.

As part of its mission to develop science-based policy on poverty and inequality, the CPI is conducting the first-ever qualitative census. The American Voices Project will talk with 5,000 individuals across the country to understand their successes and struggles, their hopes and dreams, and their ideas about how neighborhoods are faring and how policies are playing out on the ground.

American Voices Project Regional Directors will lead teams of research fellows, oversee field operations, and conduct field research under the guidance of faculty and field leadership.
