Salary: Level A $72,083 - $97,812 p.a. or Level B $102,967 - $122,268 p.a., plus 17% superannuation. Level of appointment is subject to the appointees qualifications and experience.

About the Role

The Melbourne Conservatorium of Music seeks to appoint a Tutor (Level A) or Lecturer (Level B) in Music (Performance Teaching) who  will bring imaginative and innovative perspectives to build on the Conservatorium’s distinguished tradition of music performance and commitment to training skilled instrumental and vocal teachers. The duties include teaching a range of subjects within our distinctive Master of Music (Performance Teaching) degree, including individual and group performance teaching, elective subjects, and teaching and administration of the practicum component.

About you

The ideal candidate will be a skilled musician and an experienced, passionate and effective music educator who also demonstrates a commitment to research and evidence-based innovations in pedagogy.

You  will hold a  postgraduate degree in Music Performance Teaching or Music Education and a Doctorate is preferred. You will possess considerable experience and specialist knowledge of group instrumental teaching methods and studio performance teaching approaches and be able to inspire and mentor the next generation of dynamic and effective music teachers in preparation for diverse teaching contexts.


Based at the beautiful Parkville main campus and also at the Arts Precinct Southbank campus of The University of Melbourne, you will work nestled amongst Melbourne’s major arts and cultural organisations and venues. You will have the convenience of great transport links to the rest of the city with the serenity of the Botanical Gardens close by.
