Monash College Diplomas provides a guaranteed pathway into the second year of a bachelor course at Monash University, leading to degrees in Arts, Art and Design and Architecture, Business, Engineering, Information Technology, Education and Science. Diploma programs are delivered in Melbourne as well as through the College’s partner network in India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. Diplomas forms part of the Monash College Pathways group, along with English Language and Foundation Year. All programs adhere to strict educational benchmarks in teaching and innovation and are externally accredited by TEQSA. Delivered by qualified, experienced and supportive teachers, students gain confidence in the independent learning and critical thinking styles expected at Monash University. Monash College will be relocating to a state of the art designed campus in Docklands in 2021, consolidating its campuses to build a collaborative workplace culture and a space where ‘teaching and learning’ are on display, optimizing student-centric learning.

About the position

Reporting to the Director Diplomas, the Head of Learning and Teaching is responsible for developing and leading high-quality learning and teaching initiatives, and supporting the Diplomas teaching teams with implementation. The Head of Learning and Teaching also works closely with the Diplomas, Heads of Studies to identify learning and teaching needs and professional learning opportunities. In addition, planning and delivery of support services and programs that enhance Diplomas students’ experience from an academic, well-being and transition perspective is key to this role. Key responsibilities include leading evidence-based policy and procedure improvements through extensive consultation and sound quality assurance and evaluation mechanisms driving a culture of continuous improvement and high performance. The role will also be responsible for leading the divisional Professional Development Advisory Group, and working collaboratively with Diplomas, Pathways and University colleagues to understand and address transition issues within and from Monash College to Monash University.

The person

To be considered you will possess a relevant tertiary degree and Post-Graduate qualification and have extensive leadership experience in an educational organisation. Strong insights into academic leadership and quality imperatives combined with business acumen are key role requirements, along with a track record of leading change initiatives from concept to implementation. You’ll be self-motivated, confident in your skills with a sense of real purpose and a commitment to building best practice in transition education and teaching practice. Strong negotiation and influencing skills will be key to your success, with the capacity to pro-actively identify and solve problems. As a leader you’ll be able to engage and inspire your team to be ‘fearless’, building a team culture committed to excellence, supporting and developing them to challenge the status quo and to innovate and create.   • Labour Day, Queen’s Birthday and Melbourne Cup day are normal working days, without penalty payments for time worked. Five days leave (accrued at 1⅔ per public holiday worked) will be granted in lieu, to be usually taken on the days falling between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. 

Contract: Three year full-time fixed term.

Location: Clayton with travel to other campuses as required.
