Sounds great! Tell me about the role

Security in Computing and IT is an undergraduate Bachelor level course that provides an introduction to technical aspects of security for future IT professionals. This course provides the foundations of IT security and looks at fundamental cryptographic and security mechanisms utilised in many areas of networked applications and computing. Topics of the course include operating systems, databases and web-based applications as well as modern privacy systems, data protection and blockchains.

Our Online Tutors deliver pre-planned academic content using the Canvas Learning Management System. An Online Tutor is not expected to create or add content to a course. As an Online Tutor, your role will include three functions: the delivery of pre-planned academic content; facilitating learning activities and assessments tasks, which will include webinars, online discussion boards and assessments/feedback and the moderation, marking, processing, and submitting of assessment results.

You must be willing to engage with RMIT Online facilitation strategies and be willing:

  • To be coached
  • To reflect on your teaching style to adapt to student needs
  • To implement feedback based on best practice and student feedback
  • To make sense of course content that may have little direction

Skillset and Qualifications

  • Detailed knowledge of elemental cryptography, i.e. symmetric, asymmetric key cryptography, hash functions.
  • Solid understanding of different types of vulnerabilities and attacks
  • Be able to apply knowledge in cryptography to use security toolkits such as OpenSSL and security file system such as IPFS Familiarity with security considerations and processes in the following areas: operating systems, database, network, web, and mobile computing
  • Solid understanding of current privacy considerations in the digital space, security considerations in internet banking, and crimeware

Online Tutors delivering a Bachelor's level course must have a Master's degree in a suitable content area for the course. Qualifications should be accompanied by relevant industry experience.

Teaching experience in higher education context, especially online, is highly desirable and candidates who have 3+ years of work experience are highly valued. If you're able to provide examples of previous Good Teaching Scores (or equivalent) this will be further beneficial.
