Job description

The School of Psychology at the University of Central Lancashire are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Psychology on a fixed term contract until 31st August 2020 to cover a period of maternity leave. Applicants with expertise in any area of psychology can apply for the post, however, we are particularly keen to receive applications from staff with expertise in clinical and health psychology.

The School of Psychology is part of the Faculty of Science and Technology and is located in the purpose-built Darwin Building. The School is well resourced, with an extensive range of state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment, including a Health Psychology Suite, an Observational Suite, an Eye tracking laboratory, a Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory and a Brain Imaging Laboratory. The School offers staff a supportive and collegiate environment, with carefully managed teaching and administration loads.

The School of Psychology's research strengths fall within three broad areas that form our research groups: Cognitive and Neuroscience Research Group, Forensic Psychology Research Group, and Quality of Life Research Group. With a focus on real-world issues and an underlying theme of informing practice through evidence-based research, our focus is on multidisciplinary collaboration. National and international collaborations are in place with NHS Trusts, patient groups, medical practitioners, allied health professionals, the Prison Service, police forces, Local Education Authorities, schools and school teachers, athletic clubs and charitable institutions.

Essential criteria for the post in terms of qualifications, experience and skills include having a PhD (or equivalent) in Psychology and experience of teaching Psychology in a higher education environment. Excellent communication and presentation skills and a flexible and innovative approach to teaching and learning are important criteria for the role. The successful applicant will also have the ability to work as part of a team and take on and accept responsibility. Ability to teach and supervise dissertations up to Masters level is also important.
