Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in Built Environment Epidemiology in the Faculty of Architecture (Ref.: 498671), to commence as soon as possible but not later than July 31, 2020, for a period of 24-36 months.  The appointee will be based in the Healthy High Density Cities Lab (Healthy^HDCities), a collaborative research lab working between the Faculty of Architecture and the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in environmental epidemiology, urban (built environment) epidemiology, public health related discipline, healthy city science or a related discipline with proven track record of original contributions in the field of big data urban epidemiology and healthy cities research and planning that contributed to a significant body of knowledge.  The appointee should have a strong analytical background with demonstrated expertise in handling and analyzing large and complex epidemiological cohort datasets and GIS-based spatial modelling for measuring urban environments in cities.  He/She will work on the project “Urban environment exposures and life-course epidemiology: Leveraging the power of prominent health cohorts to generate evidence-base for creating Healthy Cities” which aims to evaluate the health impacts of multiple urban environment exposures, including, air pollution, climate, urban design and greenness and to explore their interplay on human health and well-being across the life course by leveraging the power of prominent health cohorts.  Appropriate programming skills including advanced statistical modelling with large health cohort datasets and GIS-based spatial analyses are required.  The objective is to reliably decipher causal mechanisms from multiple forms of built environmental exposures in high density environments to behaviour and health outcomes.

The appointee will report directly to the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture.  He/She is expected to have the ability to work independently and in close collaboration within a multidisciplinary team comprising urban epidemiologists, environmental epidemiologists, urban modelers, spatial analysts, urban planners and public health leaders. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
