About the position

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Gjøvik (https://www.ntnu.edu/gjovik) invites applications for a postdoctoral position affiliated with the Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience group (CISaR). The position is funded and aligned with a number of research projects in the area of cyber security and resilience of critical infrastructures, funded by the EU and/or national sources.

The period of employment for this position is for 3 years.

The position reports to the Head of Department.

Main duties and responsibilities

The successful candidate will work on issues of cyber security and resilience of critical infrastructures in different domains and application areas including, but not limited to, cyber security of smart home IoT applications; cyber security of medical devices; cyber security and resilience of demand-response management systems in the power infrastructure; and trusted distributed storage of digital evidence metadata.

Qualification requirements

A postdoctoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree in Information Security, or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, postdoctor and research assistant

Other qualifications

  • Strong background in information/cyber security.
  • Strong research background within at least one of the aforementioned fields.
  • Strong programming and modelling skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Applicants who neither are native English speakers nor from Scandinavia, must provide evidence of English language proficiency by means of one of the following tests: TOEFL, Academic IELTS and Cambridge CAE or CPE. Minimum scores need to be:
    • TOEFL: 600 (paper-based test), 92 (Internet-based test)
    • IELTS: 6.5, with no section lower than 5.5 (only Academic IELTS test accepted)
    • CAE/CPE: grade B or A.
  • An applicant with fluency (oral and written) in one of the Scandinavian languages would be preferred when other conditions are equal.

We offer

Salary and conditions

Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 563 700 per year. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 3 years.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.

Appointment takes place on the terms that apply to State employees at any time, and after the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
