The Lincoln Medical School is an exciting new partnership between the Universities of Nottingham and Lincoln, established with the aim of improving the recruitment of doctors in Lincolnshire. The first group of students is arriving in September 2019 and they will follow the University of Nottingham’s BMedSci and BMBS curricula.

In the first three years, in parallel with early clinical experience, the programme provides students with the scientific knowledge required to become effective doctors, culminating in the award of a degree of Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMedSci) in year 3. It is this early years and BMedsci element of the Medicine programme that the post will support.

The early years and BMedSci technician will assist in the provision of practical classes, workshops and other activities to students of the Lincoln Medical School.Upon the completion of the new Medical School building in 2021, the postholder will take responsibility for equipping, servicing and supporting the new laboratory areas within the building. 

We are looking for someone who is committed to enhancing the education experience of students in the Lincoln Medical School and will work well as part of a team to ensure an effective, safe and efficient delivery of technical support services. We are particularly looking for candidates who are adaptable, enthusiastic and dynamic, able to work on their own initiative and who have excellent communication skills. You will need to have a ‘can do’ approach, highly developed organisational skills and a good attention to detail.

Previous experience of working in a laboratory/workshop or equivalent relevant environment is essential together with technical working knowledge of scientific equipment and resources appropriate and relevant to the role. Experience working within a teaching environment is desirable but not essential.

The post is part-time (0.8 FTE), with some flexibility over how hours are taken, within the constraints of the academic teaching cycle.  The School is prepared to give consideration to a working pattern of 4 days per week over the entire calendar year or, for example, 5 days per week in term-time and more part-time work at other times.
