The Opportunity

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering is the largest School in the Faculty of Engineering, with approximately 3,300 students and an operating budget of $23 million

The purpose of this role is to provide technical assistance and support to research projects in the field of Structural Engineering in the Heavy Structures Laboratory, and other research laboratories within the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering as necessary. Key duties include the fabrication of test specimens in timber, structural steel, concrete and other materials and the provision of assistance in all aspects of laboratory testing.

  • Salary: $74,338- $84, 116 + 17% superannuation & Annual Leave loading
  • 36 mth fixed-term, Full time
  • 35hrs per week
  • Location: Sydney, Australia

RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities for this role include:

  • Provide technical support to students and staff by fabricating, casting, curing, instrumenting and testing specimens fabricated from reinforced concrete, structural steel, timber and other materials according to given specifications.
  • Perform general laboratory housekeeping. Some heavy lifting is involved.
  • Assist in the servicing, preparing and cleaning of the Heavy Structures and other research laboratories.
  • Operate, maintain and repair (where possible) testing equipment and facilities according to given specifications and health and safety requirements. Undertake routine experimental testing and other technical and administrative duties as required by the Laboratory Manager or his/her nominee.
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the University and take all reasonable care that actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of others in the University
