Position and environment overview

The Autonomy, Agency and Assurance Innovation Institute (3A Institute) has multiple openings for research fellow/fellow roles. The positions will initially be for 2 years, with possible extension contingent upon progress and funding.

The 3A Institute ambitions to bring together the world’s best researchers from around the world and a range of disciplines, to build a new applied science around the management of artificial intelligence, data and technology and of their impact on humanity. The Australian National University (ANU) launched the 3A Institute on 4 September 2017, in collaboration with CSIRO's Data61, for an initial duration of 5 years. ANU Professor Genevieve Bell, one of the world's leading technologists and Senior Fellow at Intel Corporation, has been appointed as the 3A Institute Director. Professor Bell has pioneered futurist research at Intel and will drive the innovation, research and policy agenda of the Institute.

The 3A Institute is part of the ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), one of the premier engineering and computer science research institutions in the world. Comprising the Research School of Computer Science and the Research School of Engineering, both are recognised as research leaders in their respective areas continuing the tradition of excellence in research and research-led education. CECS collaborates on research projects with government departments (federal and state) and multinational corporations, helping to accelerate research and development programs and to introduce new technologies to the marketplace. CECS offers a wide range of coursework programs at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and also supervises students for higher degrees by research. We offer undergraduate degrees in engineering, information technology and computer science along with masters and doctoral postgraduate programs.

The Australian National University is located in Canberra, the capital city of Australia with about 400,000 inhabitants. Canberra hosts a number of first-class museums, restaurants and cafes. Canberra is also one of the few capital cities where nature reserves and parkland are integral to the city plan. Canberra has extensive walking and bike trails.
