Overview

We are seeking a qualified Legal Counsel with at least two years’ post-admission experience to advise the University and assist it to comply with its obligations under Federal, State and subsidiary legislation. This role will have a significant focus on managing and advising in respect of complaints and student appeals, including data analysis of trends and making suggestions for remedial action when appropriate. This role also may provide support to the Student Appeals Committee as an executive officer. The role may also include the provision of legal advice, drafting legal documents, representing the University at hearings as required, liaising with external specialist lawyers when necessary, and raising staff awareness of legal issues, and involves working cooperatively in a collegial environment on a variety of interesting and challenging legal matters to achieve positive outcomes for the Legal and Integrity unit as well as the University.You will also demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry and Personal Excellence.

Requirements of the role:

The successful candidate for this role must have a current practising certificate for Western Australia.

In addition you must:

  1. Be motivated and driven;
  2. Have post admission experience in a broad range of legal areas; and
  3. Be able to organise and present information, views and concepts in a concise, understandable and interesting format for a variety of recipients, including within ECU and in external forums.

You will also be required to provide a National Police Clearance check that is satisfactory to ECU for the requirements of the role, will demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry and Personal Excellence.

Benefits & Remuneration

This part-time, fixed-term position attracts remuneration at a base rate of $100,036 to $112,874 pa (pro-rata) plus an additional 9.5% University superannuation contribution.
