Overview:

Applications are invited for the role of Laboratory Manager in the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London. The Blizard Institute is the largest institute of Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry and aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service. The Blizard Institute provides a stimulating scientific environment and state of the art infrastructure and facilities. In the 2014 REF, the Medical School is ranked 7th in Clinical Medicine with 90% of research rated as 3*+ 4* in the overall power ranking for these unit of assessments. In Clinical Medicine, QMUL was ranked 4th nationally for quality of outputs.

We are seeking an outstanding and highly motivated laboratory manager interested in taking on a challenging role with considerable scope for independent personal growth. The Barts Brain Tumour Centre uses cutting edge, in vitro and in vivo technologies to study the role of deregulated epigenetic mechanisms in brain tumours. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary group, which aims to translate basic scientific discoveries into advanced patients’ treatments. In addition to managing infrastructure and resources to support progresses within the Centre, the successful candidate will be expected to provide technical support to a research team, train new lab members, as well as partake in writing grants, budget planning/management and liaising with our collaborators, including clinical partners.

Applicants should have a BSc or equivalent in oncology or neuroscience or genetics/epigenetics or related fields, be motivated, self-driven and able to work in a diverse group including experimental, computational and clinical researchers.

The post is full time, fixed term appointment for 3 years in the first instance, with the starting salary at the appropriate point for experience on the technical Grade 4 salary scales - £34,220-£37,076 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
