School of Communication

The School of Communication of HKBU is a leading school of communication, journalism, and film studies in the Asia-Pacific region. It comprises the Academy of Film, Department of Communication Studies and Department of Journalism, offering 20 programmes at sub-degree, undergraduate and postgraduate levels to circa 2,400 students. The dynamic academic environment entails Faculty members’ interdisciplinary collaboration across multiple fields of study. Under the University’s Talent100 recruitment drive, the School now invites applicants to fill the following positions:

Academy of Film

Animation and Media Arts - Associate Professor / Assistant Professor / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer (PR0102/19-20) 

The Academy is seeking suitable persons to teach (a) theories and (b) creative subjects. 

(a) Possessing strong academic strengths, the appointees is expected to teach a broad range of theoretical subjects covering animation and media arts studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and take active role in establishing scholarly exchange with international renowned institutions. 

Potential candidates should:

  • hold a PhD or MFA degree in relevant fields;
  • excel in research in terms of refereed publications and competitive grants; 
  • exhibit strong interdisciplinary researches in the areas of media arts, critical studies of digital art and animation, and philosophy of art and technology; and 
  • demonstrate potentials for academic leadership (applicable to the Associate Professor rank). 

(b) Possessing strong creative strengths, the appointee is expected to develop course content based on the latest industrial practices   and production workflows. 

Potential candidates should: 

  • hold a PhD or MFA degree in digital animation or creative media;
  • demonstrate expertise and teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: digital modeling, texturing and rendering, art direction and visual development for animation, animation principles and motion design; and 
  • preferably have notable and recognised professional credits or awards.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of two to three years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement. 

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
