Full-Time, 3 month Fixed Term Contract

Applications are invited for the post of post-doctoral research assistant in the School of Life Sciences and Environment, Department of Biological Sciences, Centre of Plant Molecular Sciences.

The successful applicant will join the research group of Professor Paul Fraser, working on the CGIAR Research Programme on Roots, Tubers and Bananas (RTB), (http://www.rtb.cgiar.org/). The RTB project is working globally to harness the untapped potential of those crops in order to improve food security, nutrition, income and climate change resilience of smallholders, especially women and youth.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in biochemistry or a closely related field with an emphasis on isoprenoid/lipid biosynthesis. They will have research experience in a range of advanced analytical biochemistry and metabolite profiling techniques including LC-MS and GC-MS and a good understanding of associated statistical analyses and established workflows. Experience in HPLC analysis of carotenoids is essential and a good understanding of a range of molecular biology techniques and QTL mapping would be advantageous. Experience in post-harvest quality and cell biology would also is desirable for this post. The ability to integrate and work well as part of an established, large and diverse team is essential, along with the ability to communicate effectively with international collaborators.

This is a full time post, available from 1 October for a fixed term period to 31 December 2019.
