Role Description

Research Fellow or Research Assistant in Environmental Web Application Development

You will contribute to the delivery of Cranfield University’s work in agricultural drought management for the DRisk2 (Multi-scale management of irrigation abstraction and drought risks in UK) project, which is funded by the UK Natural Environment Research Council.

Building on the results of previous hydrological and atmospheric modelling studies and the DRisk project (www.d-risk.eu), you will be responsible for designing and developing a web-based application to help a variety of stakeholders assess the future risks of drought restrictions on UK irrigated agriculture. The DRisk2 web application will be used to inform and co-design responses to support increased agricultural drought resilience and environmental protection. You will work closely with staff at Cranfield University and environmental and agricultural project partners with international track records in agricultural water management, irrigation demand modelling and hydrological modelling.  

You will ideally have a PhD (obtained or near completion) in ICT, geography, environmental sciences, agriculture or related disciplines (or equivalent) and be able to demonstrate a good understanding of agricultural systems and agro-hydrological processes. You will have demonstrable experience with web-based programming languages, and will have a record in developing environmental software applications. You will have experience with database design and management and be conversant with HTML, Javascript, CSS, and jQuery.
