UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY SYDNEY (UTS)
Location
Sydney, Australia
Closing date

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is one of Australia’s leading research-intensive universities, with a clear vision (as articulated in the UTS 2027 strategy) to be recognised for its global impact and continue to be an inclusive university with a strong commitment to social justice. For the fifth year running, UTS is Australia’s highest ranked young university and the 10th ranked university globally in the QS Top 50 Under 50 index. Located in central Sydney, UTS champions a distinctive model of learning, strong research performance and close engagement with industry and the professions.

Following the appointment of Professor Alan Davison (formerly Deputy Dean) to the Deanship of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), UTS FASS is now seeking a new Deputy Dean. At UTS, FASS provides high-quality, innovative programs of teaching and learning, research and consulting and continuing professional education to clients of wide backgrounds, both nationally and internationally in a spectrum of disciplines. The Faculty offers a range of courses from undergraduate through to doctoral studies specialising in Communication, International Studies & Education.

A member of the Faculty executive and supervised by the Dean, the Deputy Dean has direct line management of the two Heads of School (Communication; International Studies & Education). The appointee will play a key role – in collaboration with the Dean – in the governance of FASS, as well as the development and implementation of University strategy as it relates to academic performance at the faculty level, creating an inclusive, communicative and performance-focused culture, cultivating a robust and stimulating intellectual environment, and promoting continuous improvement of the quality of teaching and learning, and research.

The appointee will be a proven academic leader and excellent communicator with demonstrated strategic, organisational, and management skills and the vision and capability to develop further the Faculty’s academic performance. They will demonstrate extensive knowledge of matters relating to academic workforce in the contemporary higher education sector and a commitment to a rigorous and stimulating academic culture, with a focus on the context of a university of technology. They will furthermore be able to contribute to the development of a distinctive FASS, where a diversity of viewpoints is promoted and orthodoxies challenged. With a strong record of academic and management achievement in a discipline relevant to the Faculty, the Deputy Dean will be appointable at Professorial level.
