The Role

The Department of Biological Sciences is seeking an engaging and inspiring teacher in the field of vertebrate physiology. This is a specialist teaching and leadership role that is focused on enhancing the organisation and delivery of teaching and improving the student experience within the Department, particularly in the Bachelor of Medical Sciences and related Bachelor of Science (Human Biology). The emphasis of this role is on pedagogic innovation, governance and leadership across the University and strong leadership of academic programmes and activities.

The Department of Biological Sciences at Macquarie University is a vibrant and collegial community of teachers, researchers and students. We are a leading research and teaching department, conducting research at all levels of biological organisation and across diverse taxa. We lead teaching programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in disciplines ranging from genomics, physiology and human biology to palaeontology, ecology, evolution and conservation biology. In 2020 we will roll out a revised curriculum with new and exciting offerings for undergraduate students in Medical Sciences and Human Biology that will provide career paths and opportunities in health sciences. Selection Criteria

Essential

  • PhD in vertebrate physiology or a related field
  • Demonstrated excellence in developing and delivering high quality teaching materials and in developing curricula
  • Demonstrated experience in leading academic teams and the management and delivery of academic programs
  • Demonstrated experience in development of innovative teaching
  • Strong interest in improving student experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and with other members of the University
  • Strong interest in supporting the diversity of our students and staff

Desirable

  • Teaching or higher education qualifications and/or awards
