Job description

We are currently looking for a Lecturer in Child Health to join our School of Health & Social Care on a full time basis. We would welcome applications from a range of disciplines within child health.

Edinburgh Napier is one of the largest providers of nursing and midwifery education in Scotland with a strong inter-professional and transnational education portfolio. Uniquely, in Scotland, the School offers midwifery and all four fields of practice in nursing: adult, child health, mental health and learning disabilities.

Our large facility is versatile and covers everything from a critical care unit and clinical ward to a home environment and is utilised to facilitate learning and simulations to a number of external organisations and private companies.

The role

As Lecturer, you will develop, design and deliver teaching and student centred learning to our Child Health Nursing students within our Bachelor and Masters in Nursing programmes, along with supporting a broader range of subjects. You will be required to conduct individual and collaborative research projects, contribute to the School's research profile, leading to the production of high quality research outputs/outcomes. This post is within the Women, Children and Families Theme. You will be enthusiastic about cross-disciplinary and collaborative working across the University and with our specialised industry partners, including the NHS, to support Theme priority areas of activity.

Who we are looking for?

Essential requirements

  • Doctoral level qualification (or near completion)
  • Experience of working with children and/or young people to promote health and wellbeing 
  • Demonstrable evidence of teaching and supporting learners
  • Evidence of disseminating high quality output including through publications and presentations.
  • Commitment to sustained continuous professional/academic development.

Desirable requirements

  • Current active membership with the Nursing and Midwifery Council or other registered health body
  • Experience of working with children and young people in a health setting e.g. child health nursing, health visiting, school nursing, child and adolescent mental health.
  • Post-graduate certificate in higher education or equivalent.
  • Evidence of applying for external funding.
