Role Description

We are seeking an individual with an interest in innovation and product development to join our exciting partnership with a British manufacturer of high-end car care and valeting products, Autoglym Ltd., UK.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), fully supported by Cranfield University. The project will design and develop a collection of novel car care cleaning prototypes. The work includes testing vehicle cleaning accessories that optimise the efficiency of Autoglym's vehicle cleaning formulations. The partnership complements the company's existing chemical-based development expertise & facilities and will drive business growth in new areas.

The KTP offers an excellent opportunity for professional development with a £4,000 personal development budget available to support advancement of your skills and competencies. You will be supported throughout the KTP by academics from Cranfield and by the innovation team at Autoglym.

You will be expected to have a first or upper second undergraduate degree in a relevant subject area, such as product design, engineering, or innovation. In addition, you will be expected to have an understanding of human centred design approaches, methods, and techniques (e.g. collecting qualitative data, conducting workshops with confidence, translating insights into low fidelity prototypes, and using industrial standard CAD software). You will also be expected to have experience of working closely with experts from different fields such as designers, scientists, and engineers. Previous involvement in product development processes would be an advantage.

Ability to communicate complex information clearly and excellent oral, visual and written communication and presentation skills is a must.

You will be based at Autoglym, Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire with occasional travel to the Centre for Competitive Creative Design, Cranfield University, Bedfordshire.

You will expected to travel around the UK/EU to conduct interviews, ethnographic studies, and participate in meetings.

For an informal discussion, please contact Leon Williams, Professor of Design-Led Innovation and Head of Centre for Competitive Creative Design, on (T);+44 (0)1234 750111 Ext. 8531 or (E): l.williams@cranfield.ac.uk

At Cranfield, we value Diversity and Inclusion, and aim to create and maintain a culture in which everyone can work and study together harmoniously with dignity and respect and realise their full potential. This partnership received financial support from the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) programme. KTP aims to help businesses to improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills that reside within the UK knowledge base. This successful Knowledge Transfer Partnership project, funded by UK Research and Innovation through Innovate UK, is part of the government’s Industrial Strategy.

Interviews to be held: 10 October 2019
