This exciting and unique role will provide an opportunity to be involved in a number of research projects on salt reduction in the UK and China, particularly, the successful candidate will work on the MRC and NIHR co-funded project – Scaling up a school-based education programme to reduce salt in China. The overall aim of the project is to develop a feasible, sustainable and adaptable scale-up package to scale up a school-based education programme to reduce salt in children and their families in China. The project is a collaboration between Queen Mary University of London and the George Institute China and several other Chinese organisations. The principal investigators Professor Feng He and Professor Graham MacGregor are multi-disciplinary and focus on evidence-based approaches to improve public health. The successful candidate will be expected to assist the management of this MRC and NIHR co-funded project and will work closely with Prof He and Prof MacGregor on a number of research projects on salt reduction in the UK and China.
Applicants should hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in Epidemiology or Medical Statistics or a related discipline with demonstrated experience in computational and statistical analysis. Applicants should also have a proven track record of publishing research in high impact peer-reviewed journals. Good communication skills in both English and Mandarin are essential. The successful candidate should be pro-active, insightful, with excellent organisation skills, and able to use his/her initiative, as well as working in a team.
The successful candidate will gain extensive and comprehensive knowledge and research experiences in implementing strategies in reductions of salt, sugar and saturated fat, and building capacity and capability to develop, implement and evaluate nutrition policies focusing on salt reduction in LMICs, especially in China. The candidate will also enhance their knowledge on diet and health, and the strategies to improve the diet, e.g., reduce salt, sugar and saturated fat consumption in China for the prevention of non-communicable diseases.
The position is open to international applicants. Applications from any area of public health, nutrition and epidemiology are welcome; those integrating a range of disciplines are particularly encouraged.
This is a fixed term appointment, starting as soon as possible and ending on 15th September 2023. Salary will be £33,615 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
