Job description

This is an exciting time to join Coventry University as we continue to deliver our 'Excellence with Impact' research strategy.  The University has already established a portfolio of high-impact research and, with a significant investment in research, we continue to gain momentum as a world-class, innovative HEI which is internationally regarded and ranked for its research.

A key-focus of our research strategy is generating impact, i.e. non-academic benefits from our research, which is supported by a team of Research Impact Officers who sit within the Research Excellence Unit (REU). The REU is one of the five units which make up the University's Research Services, and as well as having institutional responsibility for impact, it is responsible for driving up the quality and volume of the University's research, research information management systems and preparations for REF2021.  Inaddition, the Unit supports the University's research excellence growth to promote a thriving research culture and environment.

Colleagues within Research Services and across the University are closely engaged with the University's impact agenda. The post-holder is expected to work with a range of staff to ensure a coordinated and organised approach, demonstrating leadership in their relevant area for 'project impact', not just for the REF but overall,e.g. development of pathways of impact as part of funding applications, advising and guiding on impact work packages within a project's life cycle and beyond, thus taking responsibility of driving impact and the University'simpact agenda.

The main focus of the role will be working with researchers and other stakeholders, both internal and external, to develop and progress impact case studies for REF2021.  This involves identifying impact, finding creative and innovative ways to maximise impact and engaging with existing and potential end-users of our research.  In addition, the post-holder will work with research beneficiaries to ensure that appropriate corroborating impact evidence is obtained and stored in relevant data management systems.  The post-holder will also assist there searchers to draft and edit impact case studies.

The post-holder should have a thorough understanding of the REF and what impact means in a REFcontext.  They must have very strong communication and interpersonal skills. They must be able to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels across the University Group and motivate and co-ordinate activities in support of our REF impact submission.

It is expected that the Research Impact Officer will focus on impact in a broad discipline area.
