We are currently recruiting for a Lecturer in Japanese and Linguistics.

Applications are invited for the following post in the School of Languages and Linguistics at York St John University.

You will be able to contribute to our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Japanese, TESOL, Intercultural Communication, English Language and Linguistics. You will have experience of teaching Japanese as a foreign language. You will have a doctorate in a relevant area and be actively engaged in research. Your areas of research expertise will include one or more of the following: critical discourse analysis; corpus linguistics; sociolinguistics; semantics; pragmatics; syntax; phonetics; queer and feminist linguistic theory; TESOL; digital communication.

During term-time and in assessment periods, the majority of your work will involve teaching in a variety of settings, including small group tutorials/seminars and lectures; assessment; and the provision of pastoral and academic support to students. You are likely to have the opportunity to teach in the areas in which you research, and to involve your students in your research through the York St John 'students as researchers' scheme.

The School of Languages and Linguistics has recently established a Research Centre for Language and Social Justice. The successful applicant for this post will be encouraged to think about ways in which they (and their students) can contribute towards the development of the Centre. Engaging the public in the study of language(s) will be an important part of the Centre's work, and ideas about how this might be achieved, both internationally and locally, are welcome.
