Location
Birmingham, United Kingdom
Closing date
30 Aug 2019

UCB has an exciting opportunity to “earn and learn” as a UCB College of Food Advanced Apprentice. In this role you will be given the opportunity to work across UCB’s student cafes and coffee shops and also in the University’s restaurants. We are seeking focused and motivated individuals with excellent professional and industry-related skills to be able to work under minimal supervision in high volume production environments.

As an Advanced Apprentice, you will use your existing knowledge and skills in challenging and time bound environments to produce and develop quality dishes and menu items in line with the operation’s needs. You will be given the opportunity to develop advanced skills and techniques whilst also learning how to minimise food waste, prepare food safely and plan food production to ensure efficient working methods.

The successful candidates will work on a full-time basis in the operational areas outlined above, with time allocated each week to meet with assessors, complete workbooks, undertake private study and ensure the successful achievement of a Chef de Partie apprenticeship standard (a Level 3 qualification).

Although a set rota is in place, the post-holders will also potentially be given the opportunity, at a suitable time, to work within an operational area which reflects your career aspirations. There may be a further opportunity to complete a placement in May / June subject to achievement targets being met in relation to the qualification.

The breadth of experience and opportunity offered, comes with the responsibility and expectations of any trainee supervisory role in the food industry. We expect you to attend arranged meetings with the apprenticeship team that relate to your qualification, exceptional time keeping, a professional attitude to your role and the commitment to achieve in the time frame set. The role will require you to lead on sections, assist in the training of other Chefs and contribute ideas for the growth and development of UCB’s food offers. The role is for someone who has experienced busy kitchens understands the hard work required and has a passion to grow and develop with UCB in the next stage of their career.

The post is predominantly Monday – Friday, though apprentices will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends on-site at UCB and also at other locations on behalf of UCB.

All applicants must have achieved a Level 2 qualification in food preparation / production.
