Role Description

We are investing to further strengthen our nationally leading activities in the Circular Economy through appointment of a scholar with the skills to conduct high-quality research and teach on our MDes and other postgraduate programs. In this academic role, you will explore the synergies that occur at the boundaries of the creative industries, engineering, technology and management disciplines as they relate to the Circular Economy.

Your research will unlock, embed, and realise sustainable design-driven product and service innovation in people, projects and organisations. Your research and teaching activities will inform and enthuse a new generation of specialists and help turn the promise of a Circular Economy into a reality.

Our Centre for Competitive Creative Design has been named by Business Week as one of the 'World's Best Design Schools' with a growing reputation for collaborative design-driven innovation.

You will be joining a dynamic and creative team, working in an inspiring Niall McLaughlin designed building.  We believe in socially responsible development through the use of design to deliver economic growth and social improvement and are looking for creative like-minded people to join our team.

We offer you the opportunity and resources to excel and further your career in a supportive, highly collaborative and internationally facing environment. As a university with a strong global outlook, we are committed to building and enhancing our relationships with our partners in Europe and beyond.

You will have a PhD in a topic of relevance to Design for the Circular Economy and post-doctoral experience in a relevant practitioner tradition such as engineering, product, industrial or business model design. You will have extensive experience of conducting high impact, excellent research evidenced through publications in high quality, peer reviewed journals. You will also have an established track record of securing significant research funding from the research councils, government and industry as Principal or co-investigator. If you have ambition to build your own reputation through research, an impressive publication record, a great student teaching approach, and the ability to conduct high impact research, then we’d like to hear from you.

At Cranfield, we value Diversity and Inclusion, and aim to create and maintain a culture in which everyone can work and study together harmoniously with dignity and respect and realise their full potential. We actively consider flexible working options such as part-time, compressed or flexible hours and/or an element of homeworking, and commit to exploring the possibilities for each role.

For an informal discussion, please contact Professor Leon Williams, Professor of Design-Led Innovation and Head of Centre for Competitive Creative Design, on (T);+44 (0)1234 750111 Ext. 8531 or (E): l.williams@cranfield.ac.uk

Cranfield is world-leading in its contribution to global innovation. With our emphasis on the aerospace, agrifood, defence and security, environmental technology, leadership and management, manufacturing and transport systems sectors, we have changed the way society thinks, works and learns.

We generate and transform knowledge, translating it to the benefit of society. Our partners, from micro SMEs to the largest blue-chip multinationals, from governments across the world to NGOs and charities, tell us this is what they value about Cranfield.

Innovation is part of Cranfield’s ‘corporate DNA’, evolved over 60 years of commitment to this agenda.

Our work informs policy for governments and produces new technologies and products for the world of commerce. We draw on this pool of research and consultancy to provide our students with a distinctive ‘real-world’ learning environment, allowing them to develop as professionals and transfer their new knowledge to the global economy. This has always been the ‘Cranfield way’ but it has never been more important than in today’s world.
