The Danish School of Education at Aarhus University invites applications for a professorship in Danish as a school subject related to the use and development of information and communications technology (ICT) in teaching and learning. The professorship is a full-time, permanent position which begins on 1 November 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position

The professor will be expected to strengthen research activity and output as well as contributing to the high profile of research within the area of Danish as a school subject related to the use and development of information and communications technology (ICT) in teaching and learning.

He/she will be expected to contribute to the Danish School of Education’s core activities in the following areas: research, education, talent development and knowledge exchange. The professor will be expected to provide academic leadership within the same areas, as well as contributing actively to the further development of the Danish School of Education both on a national and an international level. As part of the position, the professor is also expected to contribute to close cooperation with the National Centre for School Research (NCS).

The successful applicant will be a part of the Department of Educational Theory and Curriculum Studies based at DPU in Emdrup/Copenhagen or Aarhus. It is important that the successful applicant takes part in the daily activities of the department, including both teaching and supervising. Since the department is situated in both Aarhus and Copenhagen, the successful applicant should expect a certain amount of travel between these two cities.

Research

The professor will be expected to take a leading role in developing the area of educational theory, curriculum studies and ICT in teaching and learning. The successful applicant will be expected to lead large-scale research and development projects in relation to understanding and improving teaching within the field of subject didactics in the Danish educational system in general and the Danish Folkeskole in particular. He/she is also expected to be able to collaborate with people from other areas of expertise, also across academic disciplines, to accomplish this. The successful applicant must therefore be able to document original academic production at the highest international level, as well as significant scholarly contributions to theoretical and thematic developments within the field of education and Danish as a school subject in a developmental perspective. Applicants are furthermore asked to state their visions and plans for future developments in the field, and to document a solid track record in research leadership as well as research funding and international research cooperation.

Teaching

The professor will be expected to be the driving force in developing new courses and degree programmes within the field of Danish as a school subject related to the development of ICT in education. Consequently, the successful applicant will be expected to have considerable experience of teaching at all university levels, and should be prepared to teach and supervise at all levels of the degree programme (MA and PhD) in educational theory and education.

Talent development

The professor will be expected to contribute to talent development within the field of educational studies. He/she will have to recruit and supervise PhD students as well as teaching and developing PhD courses.

Knowledge exchange

It is expected that the professor will engage in knowledge exchange as mentioned in the strategy for the Faculty of Arts, for instance in research cooperation with private companies, government consultancy, cooperation with civil society actors or the public dissemination of knowledge. The successful applicant should document any prior experience within the field of knowledge exchange.

Qualifications

The successful applicant must provide research plans and explain how he/she will meet the expectations of the professorship with regard to the strengthening and development of research and teaching in Danish as a school subject related to the use and development of ICT in education in the Danish educational system and the Danish Folkeskole in particular.

Applicants must be able to document:

  • Academic publications at the highest international level, including research innovation in the field of subject didactics and ICT in education
  • Experience of designing large-scale studies based on mixed methods
  • Active participation in international research collaboration
  • Experience of research organisation, including the obtaining and administration of external funding • Strong teaching competences and experience of supervising at all university levels • Experience of and commitment to teaching development, the supervision of student projects, talent development, research management and the development of PhD courses

The professor must be able to teach and publish in English.
