CBD is a Centre of Excellence (SFF-III) funded by the Research Council of Norway for the period 2013-2023. The research at CBD is cross-disciplinary, mainly in the interface between biology and mathematical sciences, and is divided into three research areas: population ecology, evolutionary biology and community dynamics. About the position

Based on the recent conclusions of the work by IPBES we are currently experiencing losses of species at unprecedented rate. Unfortunately, the ecological consequences of this loss of species for ecosystem processes and services are poorly. Actions to improve this lack of knowledge have therefore been a central focus for NTNU Sustainability, which has established “Biodiversity” as one of its four major research areas. In collaboration with CBD a postdoc position is therefore open for candidates who want to analyse how various anthropogenic drivers affect temporal variation in trophic interactions and structure of food webs. An additional aim of the project is to demonstrate how the impact of various kinds of human activities on ecosystem processes and structures can be quantified. 

Qualification requirements

A postdoctoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions.

The successful candidates should hold a PhD in biology but candidates with a PhD in mathematical sciences may also be considered if the competence is relevant. We are searching for candidates that can document experience with theoretical or empirical analyses of dynamics of interspecific interactions, communities or ecosystems. Candidates who can document experience with analyses of stochastic processes will be favoured. Experience with the software R must be documented, and is mandatory. The successful candidate will be involved in a network of collaborators both at CBD, within NTNU Sustainability and internationally and must therefore possess good communication skills and social skills. We seek candidates who are able to work efficiently and goal-oriented, and who are highly motivated for the research.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, postdoctor and research assistant

Salary and conditions

Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 523 200 before tax per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. The successful candidate should start during autumn 2019, but the starting date is negotiable.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criterias in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
