The School of Education is part of the College of Design and Social Context and offers undergraduate and postgraduate studies in education, pre-service teacher education, early childhood education, educational research, professional learning and short courses. It also encompasses the RMIT Urban School- a senior secondary school, situated in inner city Melbourne. The Urban School provides innovative, connected and personalised learning journeys for senior secondary learners. It is a site for growth, applied research and partnerships.

Your Role and Your Responsibilities

The Associate Dean, Urban School is responsible for visionary leadership, supervising and coordinating the work of the Urban School at RMIT. As Associate Dean, you will have responsibility for the management of significant areas and functions within the Urban School to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the School's education program. In exercising this responsibility, you will have significant responsibility for the school's programs, budget and staffing within the framework of the School of Education's strategic plan, policies and budget.

It is expected that you will effectively manage the teaching staff and program budget and have oversight of the education programs. In this role you will work closely with and report to the Dean, Education to create and deliver on the Urban School vision, growth and development to ensure alignment with University priorities and initiatives.

Skills & Experience Required

Key to this position will be your evidence of visionary, significant and sustained educational leadership, strategic innovative thinking and implementation of pathways in education, within a school setting. You will bring with you exemplary teaching experience in a range of educational settings, including secondary schools, and/or significant work with young people and educational priorities.

You will have experience with leading and managing change in complex educational environments, including motivating staff, developing their talents and building an effective teaching team. Essential to the role will be your capacity to develop and promote a personalised student learning environment that promotes all students' abilities and talents and in building teacher capacity. Your excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills will be highly valued.

Mandatory: VIT registration

Undergraduate degree in a relevant secondary school discipline area.
