The University of Bristol is seeking to appoint a fixed-term part-time Senior Teaching Associate in Russian from 1 September 2019 to 30 June 2020.

The Department of Russian is an integral part of a dynamic and forward-looking School of Modern Languages in the Faculty of Arts. The Department is one of only a handful in the UK able to offer an extensive range of modules (‘units’) at undergraduate level encompassing Russian and Czech cultural studies, film, history, literature, and thought. In addition to this, the Russian and Czech languages are studied by highly qualified and strongly motivated undergraduates either as a mandatory part of a Single Honours degree (Russian), a Joint Honours degree with another one or two modern languages, or a Joint Honours degree with another subject, or as an optional part of such programmes (Czech).

An ability to offer research-led teaching and contribute to existing units in Russian literature, history and/or cultural studies is essential, as is the ability to teach Russian language at a range of undergraduate levels.

The ability to teach Czech language and contribute to cultural units in Czech is desirable. The successful candidate will also support the the Department and School in the development of innovative teaching methods and materials and the dissemination of good teaching practice, and will make an appropriate administrative contribution to the life of the School (as an academic tutor, for example).

The successful candidate will have native or near-native competence in Russian and English, and is likely to have, or be about to obtain, a relevant postgraduate qualification (PhD) and to have experience of teaching, ideally in the HE sector.

Interviews will be held in the week commencing 24th June 2019.

Applications must be made using the University of Bristol’s on-line application system. The closing date is 3rd June 2016. Informal enquiries should be directed to Head of Subject, Dr Ruth Coates at Ruth.Coates@bristol.ac.uk

We appreciate and value difference, seeking to attract, develop and retain a diverse mix of talented people that will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world’s leading universities.
