Position Description

The Buddhist Ministry Initiative (BMI) Visiting Scholar will teach one course in Buddhist ministry or applied Buddhism; provide support and guidance to Buddhist ministry students; actively participate in BMI and other HDS events; engage in and share their research related to Buddhist ministry; and conduct activities related to building the network of educational institutions training Buddhist students in ministry, chaplaincy, and pastoral care. This is a one-semester position for fall, 2019. Job dates are August 1, 2019 through December 31, 2019.

The candidate should be engaged in research in Buddhist ministry or related fields, and with US and international networks of Buddhist ministry, Buddhist chaplaincy, and engaged Buddhism.

Applications will be reviewed starting June 15, 2019.

The course must be open and accessible to the Divinity School’s diverse and multi-religious student body. The appointment title will depend on the finalist’s qualifications.

Basic Qualifications

Applicants should demonstrate the following qualifications:

  1. PhD in Buddhist ministry, chaplaincy, applied Buddhism, or closely related field,
  2. prior experience teaching and mentoring at the graduate level,
  3. publications in the field,
  4. experience working in the field of chaplaincy, and
  5. sensitivity to a multi-religious, diverse student body.
