Leeds Arts University is the only specialist arts university in the North of England. We have contributed significantly to the development of arts education for over 170 years, and have developed a national and international reputation based on the achievements of our students and staff.
The specialist BA (Hons) Illustration course is highly demanding and focuses on the role of applied illustration in the contemporary creative industries and broader visual culture. The course is a competitive choice for students who want to commit to an innovative programme of studio based study.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a practicing illustrator to join this dynamic course. The main focus on the role will be to lead, develop, deliver, support and assess modules that challenge students to define and refine their specialist illustration practice. You will support their development of an informed understanding of the historic, contemporary and professional contexts in which applied illustration exists. Our students engage in a range of approaches to image making. You will have a strong understanding of how to support specialist illustration practices within a broader creative context. You will be expected to deliver the practical, conceptual and contextual aspects of the course in addition to supporting research and writing skills. You will also need the skills or connections to build links with appropriate external organisations, events and opportunities for publishing and exhibiting student work. Working individually and as a member of a team you will be expected to deliver teaching within a variety of settings including lectures, seminars, studio workshops, peer reviews and individual tutorials.
The successful candidate will be expected to engage with the University’s research agenda.
Full details of the essential and desirable criteria for this role can be found in the job description.
