Position Description

Harvard Divinity School seeks to appoint an adjunct instructor/lecturer to teach one course on “Early Christian Bodies” to be offered in the Fall 2019 semester.

The course should focus on how Christians in the early centuries imagined the bodies of humans and of other beings. The selected writings should be historically contextualized and connected to broader theoretical issues in the study of religion.

Applicants will submit a sample syllabus indicating which texts they intend to include in the course and how they plan to structure the work in the class.

The course must be open and accessible to the Divinity School’s diverse and multi-religious student body. The appointment title will depend on the finalist’s qualifications.

Basic Qualifications

Applicants should demonstrate the following qualifications:

  1. completed advanced degree (PhD or ABD candidates preferred),
  2. prior experience teaching at the graduate level, and
  3. sensibility to a multi-religious, diverse student body. Publications in the field are desirable, though not required.
