Position Description

The Fortune Lab at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health is seeking a Research Scientist to contribute to our research program (https://sites.sph.harvard.edu/fortune-lab/). Our laboratory uses a combination of new technologies (next generation sequencing, mass spectrometry, micro-fluidics) with novel genetic tools to study a variety of biological problems related to Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Over the past year, the scope of the laboratory’s efforts have been in building a multi-institutional collaborative network to bring cutting edge immunology and microbiology to dissect immune control of TB infection. This culminated in the submission of a proposal to the NIH for the IMPAcTB contract, describing a 7 year program involving 11 institutions in Africa, Europe and the U.S., to define the correlates of protective immunity to TB infection and disease.

The successful candidate will manage overall scientific progress of the program and oversee the Innate Responses and Functional Antibody Studies Core in the Fortune Lab. The Research Scientist will be responsible for monitoring progress toward upcoming tasks and deliverables, recording completion, coordinating across working groups, facilitating monthly Working Group and quarterly program calls, and ensuring the team addresses foreseeable scientific or methodological challenges. He/she will work with the Administrative Project Manager on program deliverables, such as reports. Together with Dr. Fortune, the Research Scientist will be the point of contact for the team regarding scientific matters. For the Innate Core, the Research Scientist will coordinate analyses and oversee data quality and analysis.

Basic Qualifications

Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in a relevant field, with a minimum of two years of postdoctoral or equivalent experience.

Additional Qualifications

• Evidence of strong written and oral communication skills.
• Background in immunology with experience in innate immune biology a plus.
• Evidence of ability to synthesize and critique diverse data types.
