Position Description
The Department of Anthropology seeks applications for a Lecturer in Anthropology who will also fulfill the responsibilities of the Assistant Director for Undergraduate Studies for both the Archaeology and the Social Anthropology Programs. The appointment is expected to begin on 07/01/2019 or 08/01/2019. The position is renewable for up to three years, contingent on satisfactory performance.
The Lecturer/ADUS is responsible to teach one undergraduate course in her/his area of expertise. As ADUS, is responsible to assist the Director of Undergraduate Studies to oversee, and work with, the Undergraduate Program Coordinator to administer the undergraduate concentrations in Anthropology. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, academic advising, interfacing with relevant offices of Harvard College and with DsUS/Head Tutors of other departments, and raising awareness of Anthropology across the College. The ADUS will also have supervisory/oversight responsibilities (in coordination with the DUS and a Department Teaching Fellow) for two courses in the Social Anthropology Program: a) Anthropology 98 – Junior Tutorial in Anthropology, a required course for all Junior concentrators, focused on preparing students to undertake fieldwork and develop their own research projects, and b) Anthropology 99 – a yearlong writing seminar for Senior thesis writers, and run the course’s weekly meetings. The Lecturer may also advise and evaluate senior theses.
Basic Qualifications
Doctorate in Anthropology or related discipline required by the time the appointment begins.
Additional Qualifications
Demonstrated strong commitment to teaching is desired.
