Research Trial Co-ordinator / Research Cinical Psychologist

Department :
Psychology

This is a full-time research post for a research clinical psychologist to co-ordinate an exciting Wellcome Trust funded multi-centre randomised controlled trial investigating Avatar therapy, a novel digital psychological intervention for reducing the distress of voices in people with psychosis. Avatar therapy has been shown to result in a rapid and large reduction in voice distress in a previous trial. This study will test the effectiveness of different versions of the therapy and its training and dissemination across different centres in the UK. The study leads are Prof Philippa Garety and Prof Tom Craig and the postholder will join an internationally renowned team of clinical researchers developing interventions for psychosis.

A keen interest in clinical research and psychosis along with a good understanding of cognitive models of psychosis and excellent clinical skills working with psychosis are essential. The postholder will also need to have excellent communication and liaison skills as they will be required to promote the study both locally and nationally.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 44 months.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent.

The selection process will include a panel interview and an assessment.

Interviews are scheduled to take place on 5 June 2019.

In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) King’s was ranked 6th nationally in the ‘power’ ranking, which takes into account both the quality and quantity of research activity, and 7th for quality according to Times Higher Education rankings. Eighty-four per cent of research at King’s was deemed ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ (3* and 4*). The university is in the top seven UK universities for research earnings and has an overall annual income of more than £684 million.

King's has a particularly distinguished reputation in the humanities, law, the sciences (including a wide range of health areas such as psychiatry, medicine, nursing and dentistry) and social sciences including international affairs. It has played a major role in many of the advances that have shaped modern life, such as the discovery of the structure of DNA and research that led to the development of radio, television, mobile phones and radar.
