Job description

Coventry has been successful in its bid to be the UK City of Culture 2021. Coventry University has a portfolio of digital archive projects and aims to capture for posterity the essence of the City of Culture 2021 with the development of a digital archive. The City of Culture Digital Archive will be the largest digital project that the City and the University has ever undertaken.  The archive could include over 2 million visual digital assets of individual experiences,uniquely designed and produced which will be of a variety of formats, length and bandwidth. This will include video, audio, photographic, virtual reality and augmented reality. As the University has a portfolio of digital archives and innovative interfaces we will design the COC Archive to appeal to users of all ages, however as we have badged Coventry as a city of "young people" (fifth youngest city in UK) we will particularly utilise digital tools so that the archive appeals to young people in the medium they are most familiar with including augmented and virtual reality.

The Director will provide leadership, vision, strategy and coordination of the work of the Digital Archive, taking responsibility and accountability for resources and performance. The main purpose of the role is to lead Coventry University's City of Culture Digital Archive to become an internationally recognised and respected centre of excellence and innovation for Digital Archiving.

In particular, the post holder will lead,manage and direct the delivery of the City of Culture Digital Archive's business plan, ensuring that income, output, quality and research/education targets are met, plan and manage both financial and human resources, including developing a strong portfolio of programmes, staff and external partners engaged in research and education, and develop and maintain partnerships with relevant stakeholders (including, but not limited to, the COC Team, BBC, BT, Warwick University, The National Archives, British Library, AHRC, Innovate UK). The Director will also lead on income generation and on leveraging large grants.
