Reporting to the Vice President for University Communications, but with much direct and independent interaction with the President and other Penn executives, the Director of Executive Communications is responsible for a wide range of executive communications activities, including, but not limited to: engaging with the media to generate positive coverage on behalf of the President’s Office; providing briefings and talking points for interviews; developing social media content and managing relevant websites and blogs; developing collateral material in support of presidential initiatives; and working collaboratively with staff within the President’s Office, Development and Alumni Relations, other University offices and outside vendors in support of major events.

A Bachelor’s Degree and 7 years to 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. The ideal will possess excellent writing skills; have strong interpersonal skills; be comfortable interacting with university executives, Trustees, and key alumni; possess a thorough understanding of, and experience with, the use of social media; be consistent in meeting deadlines; and have the ability to juggle multiple assignments simultaneously while maintaining a sense of humor and collegial work ethic in an environment that can be fast paced.

Good judgment, creativity, common sense, and an awareness of the issues affecting higher education are essential to success in the job.

The ability to travel, both domestically and internationally, is required.
