Role Description

Cranfield University is an exclusively postgraduate university that is a global leader for education and transformational research in technology and management. Cranfield Manufacturing is one of the major themes at Cranfield University. Our capability is world-leading and combines a multi-disciplinary approach that integrates design, technology and management expertise.

This position is for a Research Fellow to work mainly on a critical Industry funded project for 36 months as part of a larger team. This is a fantastic job opportunity for a motivated and experienced researcher in the field of Materials Science, MEMS, and Nanotechnology. You will be supporting a long running project with specific deliverables of precision devices. The researcher will also be involved in developing new projects which fall into the remit of the lead academic and potentially the interests of the researcher.

As a Research Fellow you will also be expected to publish in high quality journals, support the generation of research proposals, as well as supervise MSc student projects.

You will be educated to Doctoral level holding a PhD (or close to completion) in a relevant subject such as Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Electronics or MEMS. Your role will involve working alone and with others so self-motivation and the ability to plan your workload will be a benefit.

For an informal discussion, please contact Dr Glenn Leighton, Lecturer in Functional Surface Engineering, on (T); +44 (0)1234 750111 x 2724 or (E); g.j.t.leighton@cranfield.ac.uk

At Cranfield, we value Diversity and Inclusion, and aim to create and maintain a culture in which everyone can work and study together harmoniously with dignity and respect and realise their full potential. We actively consider flexible working options such as part-time, compressed or flexible hours and/or an element of homeworking, and commit to exploring the possibilities for each role.
