Role Description

Cranfield University is an exclusively postgraduate University with an excellent global reputation for industry-relevant education and research. We are the only university in Europe with our own airport and runway. Through the strong links with industry we have built over the past 70 years, we focus on defining and delivering the aircraft, airport and airspace management of the future.

Cranfield Aerospace is one of the eight major themes at Cranfield University. The Centre for Autonomous and Cyber-Physical Systems is a specialist centre established over 15 years within the School of Aerospace, Transport and Manufacturing dedicated to research and teaching in autonomous and space systems. We cover all types of autonomous vehicles including airborne, ground and marine as well as autonomous space exploration.

This is a fixed-term position to support the delivery of research on Embedded Systems and Visualisation for the Innovate UK-funded project HumanDrive. The main aim of the project is to provide a demonstration of an autonomous car with the capability of emulating human driver behaviour. The experimental data will be collected from the newly built instrumented road – Multi-User Environment for Autonomous Vehicle Innovation (MUEAVI). You will be contributing as Research Fellow to the team that is developing this facility, especially for what concerns the setup of the routines of embedded computing, visualisation and data-synchronization.

You will have experience in architecture design and the implementation of intelligent systems. Knowledge and experience of working with C/C++, Python and MatLab is key. You will have excellent time-management and be able to work both independently and as part of a team and be experienced in carrying out experimental research.

Candidates are expected to be confident and independent researchers with a PhD (or close to completion) in a relevant engineering discipline, such as autonomous systems, computer science or applied signal processing.

For an informal discussion, please contact Dr Ivan Petrunin, Lecturer in Digital Signal Processing for Autonomous Systems, on +44 (0)1234 750111 Ext. 8262 or i.petrunin@cranfield.ac.uk

At Cranfield, we value Diversity and Inclusion, and aim to create and maintain a culture in which everyone can work and study together harmoniously with dignity and respect and realise their full potential. We actively consider flexible working options such as part-time, compressed or flexible hours and/or an element of homeworking, and commit to exploring the possibilities for each role.
