The Kirby Institute is a leading global research institute dedicated to the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. Established in 1986 in response to the then emerging HIV epidemic, the Kirby Institute now contributes to knowledge on a broad range of diseases, including viral hepatitis and sexually transmissible infections.

The Justice Health Research Program conducts research with offenders both incarcerated and in the community. The Kirby Institute is conducting a study (ReINVEST) through the Justice Health Research Program on patients with impulsive behaviours. The study will look at the implication of medications to reduce the violent or aggressive behaviours in male offenders. To Facilitate the study, we are looking for a Research Assistant who will provide research admin support to the program.

About the role

  • $85K-$91 plus 9.5% superannuation and leave loading
  • Fixed Term for 12 months
  • Full-time (35 hours per week)

The position holder is responsible for providing research assistance for the ReINVEST program and associated studies, particularly contributing to peer-reviewed publications, preparing ethics applications, data collection and analysis, and report writing.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Graduate qualification in public health and/or an equivalent level of related work experience and training in a similar role
  • Proven experience in working in a research environment
  • Knowledge of research methodology and clinical trial protocols
  • Previous experience of data collection and quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Excellent computer skills including experience and competence using Microsoft Word, Endnote, and Excel
  • High level written communication skills.
  • Experience with statistical software such as SPSS, Stata, or SAS
  • Excellent organizational skills with a proven capacity to prioritise own workload and meet deadlines
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
