SENIOR EDUCATIONAL DESIGNER / EDUCATIONAL DESIGNER

This is an exciting opportunity to join the ‘The iHub’ (or Innovation Hub) at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

As part of the Academy Strategic Plan 2013-2023 - Cultivating 21st Century Performing Artists: an Asian heart, a global view”, the Innovation Hub was established as a learning and teaching support unit at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a remit to enhance the quality of performing arts education programmes delivery through adopting innovative, student centered, educational methodologies and integration of emerging technologies. The Innovation Hub strives to create an institutional culture that values, rewards and sustains engagement, innovation and excellence in learning and teaching. We promote outcomes-orientated, high-impact teaching practices in performing arts education that foster deep, lifelong learning and, ultimately, student success. 

The iHub supports staff and students to make effective use of technology in education and to develop and implement innovative teaching and learning strategies. It aims to establish the Academy as a leader in the development, support and implementation of innovative Performing Arts Education Technology Practices in the Asia Pacific Region. The role of the Senior Educational Designer as an academic appointment plays a key part in supporting innovative pedagogy and associated learning and teaching change across the Academy. 

Applications are invited for the position of Senior Educational Designer / Educational Designer* under the ENRICH team of the iHub. 

The Senior Educational Designer is an academic appointment and is accountable to the Head of iHub (and / or delegate) and will provide significant pedagogical leadership and oversight into the iHub’s various learning and teaching initiatives.  Duties include overseeing and contributing to the pedagogical developments of the iHub’s work such as supporting academic staff in the effective use of a Learning Management System (CANVAS), lecture capture, MOOC development, online student portfolios, provision of professional development activities and other tasks as delegated by the Head of iHub as and when required. 

Applicants should have:
(a)    a recognized degree from a tertiary institution;
(b)    extensive experience in managing and contributing to large scale eLearning pedagogically driven projects;
(c)    solid experience in facilitating professional development for academic staff across a range of learning and teaching areas such as: 21st Century approaches to Learning and Teaching, Curriculum, Assessment, Outcomes Based Education and an understanding of practice, theory and research in these areas being an advantage;
(d)    extensive experience in pedagogical support for academic staff in the innovative use of Learning Management Systems; Lecture Capture and best practices in the use of AV resources and technologies to support and enhance student learning, Online Portfolios for students, MOOC development  as well as project management and quality assurance processes;
(e)    an extensive understanding of current trends in technology enhanced learning (with experience in the performing arts and/or a knowledge of performing arts education being an advantage);
(f)    strong organizational, team and communication skills; and
(g)    strong presentation, analytical and written skills in English, proficiency in Cantonese and Putonghua an advantage.

*Note:
Offer of appointment as Senior Educational Designer or Educational Designer will depend on the applicant level of experience. Short-listed applicants will be required to submit an example of a learning and teaching project they have managed or contributed to, and outline their role in its development with a focus of its pedagogical impact.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT 
Appointment will be on a two-year contract, with possibility of renewal, subject to mutual agreement.    A gratuity payment equal up to 15% of basic salary earned during the contract period will be payable upon satisfactory completion of contract.  Fringe benefits include leave, medical, and dental benefits.  Although subject to negotiation, the expected commencement date is mid-August 2019. The current standard rate of income tax in Hong Kong is 15%. 

Housing subsidy will be provided to the eligible appointee for the post of Senior Educational Designer.
